Energy and Water companies remembered the former employees of Electrogaz who were victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994

The Management of Rwanda Energy Group Limited (REG Ltd) and Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) with its staff dedicated Friday, 20th April 2018 to remember the former ELECTROGAZ employees who were victims of genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

The remembrance event was preceded by a walk to remember where staff and partners of both institutions walked from REG headquarters to Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi.

After arriving at the memorial, they laid a wreath on the graves of this resting place for more than 250 thousand victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

All the testimonies and speeches at the event reminded how employees of ELECTROGAZ who were Tutsi were discriminated and persecuted by their colleagues before and during the Genocide.

Dr. Bideri Diogène said how employees who were Tutsis were discriminated and persecuted at work and that many of them were unfairly fired. He said that there were lists showing the number of Tutsis, Hutus and Twa who were in every institution and that this was in relation with the Genocide which was under preparation.

“Let’s sustain the development we’ve achieved so far and keep the same vision that tomorrow must be better. Let’s keep promoting initiatives and programs leading us to unity and reconciliation such as “Ndi Umunyarwanda”” said the Minister of State in charge of Energy and Water, Hon. Germaine Kamayirese, who was the guest of honor at the event.
